Author Bio

Mandy Lou Dowson was born and raised in a small town in Ireland, in 1983, and at this stage in life, she's pretty sure the town won't let her leave. Family is a huge deal to Mandy. She has three wonderful children (most of the time), and two Siberian Huskies who are each as naughty as the other – in fact, she's sure they egg each other on in silly cartoon voices when nobody is looking.

Mandy started reading at quite a young age and her appetite for the written word has only increased with time. It would not be at all surprising to find her reading anything and everything from shampoo bottles to Edgar Allan Poe.
 

She is the author of three different genres of romance books. The Moon Bound series, which is in the Paranormal Romance genre, and is gathering rave reviews, and the Taboo series, which is Contemporary with a hint of the forbidden, the first of which has gathered very mixed reviews across the board, from one extreme to the other.

She has also made a foray into Dark Romance recently, with her first title in the genre, Retribution, releasing in Summer 2015.

 The Phoenix Candidate: Amazon | iBooks | BN | Kobo RELEASE DAY EXCLUSIVE: Behind the scenes at a sexy photo shoot Have you ever seen a book cover and thought, huh, I think I’ve read that before? Maybe you’re just seeing the same stock photo. It’s no secret in author circles that the best stock photos make the rounds … a lot. That’s why I decided to do a custom photo shoot. Thanks to my massively talented friend Adrian Hale, a hair and makeup artist who works with photographer Josh Baker of AzulOx Photography, we arranged a shoot featuring the gorgeous Callisto and David: 

  The setup: Adrian’s house. The girl let us totally mess up the place, bless her heart.                                       While David and Callisto were total pros, I was in the corner accidentally making inappropriate comments (oohs and aahs and that’s hot and I’m going to need a moment alone). We saw the shots pop up on a tablet in real time. In most cases, the last shot was the best. Josh said, “I know when we’ve got it right. That’s when we stop shooting.” We took inspiration from Pinterest and from the idea of a push-pull dynamic in Grace and Jared’s relationship throughout the series. The models were actually pushing and pulling on each other during the shoot, which makes their muscles flex and makes the pose more dynamic.

My favorite shot is pure improv. She’s a trained ballerina and he’s an acrobat, so they know how to move their bodies in amazingly beautiful ways. Callisto was imitating Kate Winslet’s moment on the bow of the Titanic, played by David. They were preparing for a pose like this. What a difference lighting and perspective makes (comparing my shot from the side vs. Josh’s professionally lit photo, shown here on his camera). Now for the hard part: choosing a favorite image. I loved this photo for David’s amazing abs in this pic, but some readers felt that it didn’t show enough connection for the characters.

He didn’t give a shit that I was bleeding on the floor and looking up at their blatant display of affection. Deep down, I knew this was all an act on his behalf. He wanted me, not her. Was made to feel alive by every ridge—its every pulse. “Are you going to punish me?” He smirked down at her, eyes heavy with lust. There was no concern in her for me, just a cocky sway to her hips as she marched toward his room. “You heard her.” Talan stood across from me now, door wide open and his arrogant smirk firmly in place. “Get the fuck out, Janice. There’s nothing left for you here. Just go.” When the fuck did he move? “Baby, please. Don't do this,” I begged him one last time as I stood and wiped my lip. Couldn’t he see what his carelessness was doing to me? How he killed me with each word that left his lips? “I don't deserve this. Not again.” His head tilted to the side, an inquisitive expression on his face. “Again? What the fuck do you mean, again?” Ignoring his question, I walked closer. This was not the time to delve into a part of me—a part I couldn’t get a hold on. My hand reached out to grab him, yet he pulled back. Talan’s handsome face was full of the disgust he felt at my mere presence “All I need is for you to love me. See me again.” The room began to feel small, the walls and the truth I’ve ignored closing in on me. My fantasy of happiness began to crumble like a stack of cards blown by the wind. Fuck. My chest hurt. “Please.” It left me as a strangled whisper. My final plea. Talan had to realize that only he held the key to my sanity. He shook his head and sighed. “No. No more. I never gave you hope, nor did I promise you a possibility for more. You did this to yourself.” He made his choice. There was nothing else to say. “Okay.” “Okay? Really? Just like that. After all this…” he waved his hand around the room “…bullshit!” How fucking dare he treat me like this? Like a nuisance. “You know what, Talan? Fuck you and your little whore.” This time, it was he who took a step closer. “Watch your goddamned mouth,” he spat with venom. Fear crept in, building within my gut, but I stood firm.
