Synopsis
Everyone knows you should never say never.
Cooper Moore never saw Maggie Williams coming. She was just his best friend’s little sister, the curly-haired, freckle-faced girl from Mississippi who was absolutely off limits. And he never thought about her any other way — not until he saw her that night, broken and brave. From that moment on, he knew he’d do whatever it took to protect her, even if it meant he had to stay away.
Maggie never expected to find her fiancĂ© banging her maid of honor an hour before she was set to walk down the aisle, but life’s funny that way. The only option to save her sanity is to get the hell out of Jackson and move to New York where her brother lives. The only downside: Cooper is there too. And she just doesn’t know if she can stay away from him — the filthy rich, dead sexy playboy who’s allergic to commitment.
The second Maggie sees him again, she realizes he’ll be impossible to resist. Luckily, commitment is the last thing on her mind, and Cooper is the perfect escape. As long as she can keep her heart in check, everything will be just fine. Because she can never have feelings for him. Or at least that’s what she’ll keep telling herself.

About the author
Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life -- a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom; she has three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife; even though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey. Her favorite word starts with f and ends with k. From roots in Houston, to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she's not writing, she's sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

River Mason has never led an easy life. Losing his parents forced him to become a man and step into a role that was never intended for a ten-year-old boy. But his parents weren’t the only thing he lost. He is bitter and angry at the world and everyone in it. He’s determined to never allow his heart to feel anything because that would be weakness and weakness is never allowed. If he doesn’t allow feelings into his heart, then there are zero chances he will ever be hurt again. His number one rule is to never let anyone in.

Joss Meyer is perfectly happy with her life. She and her best friend, Nina, have been by each other’s side since the fifth grade. They’ve opened their own personal chef business together and life couldn’t be better for them. She isn’t looking for a man. It isn’t something that’s ever been missing in her life. She’s focused on her career and enjoying a carefree life.

When Joss meets River her world is turned upside down. She finds herself willing to be with a man who promises to hurt her in the end.

Is it better to end up hurt, than to never have loved in the first place?

When you are born, you’re born a blank canvas. Over time, sadness and heartbreak leave deep scars. Loss and sorrow carve deep chasms into that canvas. Love is like paint, it colors your heart and fills in every scar, every wound that life has left behind.

The decision is black and white, but how you feel isn’t. Can one truly see…love?

Author Bio

I am an “Indie” contemporary romance author. I live in California with my husband and two teenage boys. I absolutely love being a stay at home mom.

I never liked reading as a kid. I only started reading romance novels in the past few years. My Kindle and I are inseparable now. A thought occurred to me in December of 2012 that maybe I could write a romance novel. So I went to work with the encouragement of my husband and my sister-in-law. It didn’t take long to figure out that I really enjoy writing.

Today I am a self-published author and it has been an amazing journey.

1) The air around us stills. The sounds from the water and animals disappear. It’s as if nature is curious about the effects an immortal kissing a … well, whatever I am … will have on its delicate balance.

2) Don’t forget—you’re not just any mortal. You stopped me when I made the worst mistake of my life and tried to attack you. You fought off an abnormally skilled demon and saved your sister. As horrified as I am that you had to do that, I’m also glad you can defend yourself.

3) I’m done.
I’m done being a pawn in their game.
I’m done being her puppet.
I’m done being kept in the dark.

CHAPTER ONE

Maddy

I’m dating an angel.
Up until yesterday, I thought they didn’t exist. Now I’m falling in love with one.
Considering the insane events that have happened in the last five days—especially the last twenty-four hours—I shouldn’t be focusing on what MJ is. I am, though.
Whether or not I believed in them, angel references are everywhere. They appear in books, movies, and TV, wearing anything from white togas to trench coats. Their image has been made into figurines and appears on jewelry and even clothes. They’re a symbol of hope that billions of people all over the world have accepted. Some people pray to them daily, assured in their beliefs; others do it in times of desperation, when all hope seems lost. So many people have prayed for a miracle—prayed for proof that someone is listening.
Why then was I chosen over all of them?
I glance over at MJ lying beside me on Hiniker Bridge. He’s staring at the clouds with his head resting on his arms. It’s easy to forget what he is. His short brown hair is messy as if only his fingers have touched it, his hazel eyes suck me in no matter how far apart we are, and his smile shines brighter than high beams on the darkest night. He wears plain white shirts and dark jeans, and somehow on him they look better than a designer outfit—not that I wouldn’t mind seeing him in one. The only thing keeping him from being perfect is the silence coming from his chest.
My heart stutters, pounding out the truth I can’t ignore. MJ is dead.
He is dead and I am not.
A sigh unintentionally leaves my lips.
MJ rolls to face me. “What is it?”
I offer a weak smile. “Nothing.”
He reaches out, taking my hand. A buzzing jolt of energy—his essence—courses through my body, searching for any clues as to what upset me. He frowns, not liking whatever he found.
“No more secrets, remember?”
All morning we’ve been sharing small details of our lives, making good on the promise we made yesterday. MJ’s asked me about school, hobbies, and music. I’ve asked about places he’s traveled and what foods he’d like to try now that he can taste again. As nice as it is to have time like this—where everything is calm—we’re both deflecting.
He’s distracting me from thinking about yesterday—the worst day of my life. I’m avoiding anything even remotely related to his angelic side. But we can’t avoid it forever. At some point, we’ll have to talk about it if I want to have a true relationship with him.

Excerpt
As soon as we made contact, she straightened, and I felt goose bumps erupt on her skin, that electric buzz playing with my own nerves. Her hands started stroking my chest, her eyes meeting mine, and I captured one of her wrists with my hand, holding her palm flat against me. “Alexander,” she whispered, her eyes still on mine. “Hi, Maya,” I whispered back. Feeling truly lost in her gaze, I found myself leaning down and breathing her in. I felt a shiver go through her body and smiled against her neck. “Do you know what I missed the most?” I murmured, leaving a hot trail of kisses along her jawbone. My blurry mind registered the slow shake of her hand. I pulled her flush against my body again, my hand moving up to rest between her shoulder blades. Hell. It was pure hell to try to hold back and not rip her clothes off of her and fuck her against the counter for all the world to see. “I missed your skin,” I said, my hand slowly making its way down from her shoulder blades again. She remained silent. Fine by me. I didn’t need her words. She couldn’t hide the tremble of her body even if she wanted to. “I missed your scent,” I groaned against her ear, gently biting her ear lobe. She tilted her head, opening up to my mouth. At that moment, I knew she would let me do anything I could possibly want to do to her. The place, the time didn’t matter. She was simply mine, and in a deep corner of her soul I was sure she knew it too. Without touching her skin, I moved my mouth from her neck to her mouth. Just an inch of air keeping us from each other. “Open your eyes, sweetheart,” I whispered, waiting for her to do just that. Looking back at me was a scared woman, scared to wish, to hope. I would give her anything she would ever need. I would give her myself. My heart. From that day forward, I would never leave her alone. Never give her up. She licked her lips and swayed a little, eager to get my lips on hers. I kept my palm firmly connected with her skin and never stopped caressing her back. Her goose bumps never disappeared. “I even missed your fucking breath, Maya,” I growled, the hold I had on my urges finally snapping as I took her mouth in a searing kiss, rocking her body backward with the force, taking everything I could take from her.     11825230_863931630361529_7336131903778084444_n

About the author
I'm an avid reader. Therefore, a big dreamer. I love nothing more than to escape real life to find those very few magical moments in a book. I love how it has the power of stealing your worries away, putting a smile on your face, and of course sometimes making you crush on fictional characters. If I can manage to do even one of those things for a reader, I will be a happy writer.
I can't even begin to describe how exciting it is to give life to new characters and fall for them. It's a different kind of addiction.
I'm still searching for my own happy ending. Until that happens, I'll live vicariously through my own characters.

Excerpt
After the evening meal Jade allowed Blaise to change her bandages. Shivers ran through her when his fingers grazed her skin. She knew it was all innocent to him; he was only changing a bandage. Perhaps this was the sort of thing he did back home. He had to have someone waiting for him there. For her, him touching her even in such an innocent way sent spirals of warmth flooding through her veins, awakening feelings she had never known to exist.
“Your shoulder looks alright.” His breath tickled her neck. “Now, let’s look at your cheek.” Gently he peeled away the bandage. “Good.” The word was so soft but he sounded pleased. She sat still as a statue while he used his finger to apply more anointment then secured a fresh bandage over it.
“What was it like growing up in the city?” she finally asked.
“My sister Teresa and I are very fortunate that we have such a loving family. Our parents were busy with their obligations but they always made time for us, even if it was just to read a story to us before we went off to bed. I’ve always lived in a house with electricity though. We even have indoor plumbing. Many of the things that were once taken for granted in this country, we have.”
“Indoor plumbing?” She did not recall coming across this in her books.
“I’ll show you when we get there. It’s great. I look forward to the day that everyone can enjoy it again. No outhouse, no heating water for baths, no carrying buckets of water from a well.”
“Really? You don’t have to go out for all of that?”
“No, pipes bring the water in and they take it right back out. Water is stored in a large container that heats it so you have hot water waiting for you.”
She knew her eyes had gone wide as he described it all to her, the slightly amused look on his face confirmed it for her. “That must be nice.”
“It certainly is a convenience. We helped others in the city who did not have the things that we had, so we grew up appreciating all that our family had given us.”
“People should help each other, is that not common?” Her brows furrowed together at the thought of people not helping their neighbors. What if Mona had not wanted to be bothered with raising an infant? She would have surely died.
“It seems that no matter where society is there will always be those who look out only for themselves.”
“Why would anyone want to be a part of that then?” She crinkled her nose at the thought.
“You’re cute when you do that.”
Her green eyes grew wide and locked on him as her eyebrows shot up toward the ceiling. “You think I’m cute?” She tried to hide a smile.
“Yes, I do.” He ran a hand over his face, covering his eyes for a brief moment as he answered her. “I’m sure you will hear things like that more often now that you are no longer hidden away from the world.”
“Perhaps.” She tucked her bottom lip under one of her teeth. “Maybe I don’t want to hear it from anyone else.” She cut her gaze to the fire so she would not see his reaction. The embarrassment she already felt would only be worse if he looked appalled at what she had said.
“Hmm.”
She imagined that it was a pleased sound that he made. Out of the corner of her eye she could see the slight upturn of his lips. He stood and stretched.
